Making Cool Stuff

Welcome to the world of making! In this exciting series of classes, students will be introduced to the fundamental tools and projects commonly found in a makerspace. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, this course is designed to ignite your creativity and develop your skills in crafting, designing, and innovating.

Throughout the series, students will have hands-on experiences with a variety of tools and equipment commonly found in makerspaces, including but not limited to 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking tools, and computer-aided design (CAD) software. Emphasis will be placed on safety procedures and best practices when using these tools.

Each class will focus on a specific tool or project, allowing students to progressively build their knowledge and expertise. From designing and prototyping simple objects to more advanced projects, students will gain confidence in their ability to bring their ideas to life.

Key topics covered in this series include:

  1. Introduction to Makerspace and Designing: Overview of tools, equipment, and safety protocols. Introduction to computer-aided design (CAD) software to design and prototype objects for specific equipment.

  2. 3D Printing: Understanding the basics of 3D printing, designing simple models, and printing prototypes.

  3. Laser Cutting and Engraving: Exploring the capabilities of laser cutters and engravers, and creating custom designs.

  4. Woodworking: Learning essential woodworking techniques (CNC) and creating wooden projects using various tools.

By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in makerspace tools and projects, empowering them to continue exploring and creating in the exciting world of making. Get ready to unleash your creativity and join us on this inspiring journey!

Included:

  • 5 classes; every Tuesday from 6pm-8pm (Must be able to attend the first session for introduction. Re-scheduling one other session per person will be available)

  • All materials needed to complete projects

  • One-month access to Makerspace (month of the series)
